In late 2018, Bloomberg Philanthropies selected the Cities of Parkland and Coral Springs, as a winner of its Public Art Challenge. Overall, Coral Springs will receive $1 million from the foundation. The project brought the community together in collective healing and reflection following the tragedy as MSD. The first of five public art pieces included the Temple of Time, by artist David Best which opened to the public to thousands of visitors on February 14, 2019. The final two public art installations: Peace & Love and Big Picture: Resilience. This initiative focuses on the closing of the grant for these art installations.
The Bloomberg team presented to the Commission at the March 15th, Regular Commission meeting. The program was evaluated on it's effectiveness and community impact. Recommendations were provided to staff for future art installations and engaging the community. Overall, the Power of Art brought people together, bolstering unity and fostering a sense of community.
