As part of the new Ordinance adopted in 2019, the City Commission approved a one-year Pilot Program for signs within public rights-of-way in the City. The Program included limitations on number, size, and location for signs within the rights-of-way city-wide. Throughout the last year, Development Services staff has been working with business owners to identify what aspects of the Program have been successful, and what aspects may need to be adjusted before permanent adoption of the Program. Workshops with the Realtors Association of the Palm Beaches and Greater Fort Lauderdale, as well as local sign companies, were held in February and November of 2019. Updates were provided to the City Commission throughout the Pilot Program. Discussion during these workshops resulted in additional recommendations for these types of signs.
The City is no longer under emergency orders, staff will bring a code amendment to the City Commission addressing temporary signs. It is anticipated this will be a City Commission Workshop item in the summer, followed by an ordinance in early fall.
